Training

Training is the systematic process of improving the efficiency of the workers by improving their work related knowledge.

There are three types of training

  1. On the job - given at the workplace so that workers can practically apply their training better
  2. Off the job - given outside the regular working environment to make sure that they have learnt
  3. Induction training - given to new workers to familiarize them to the work environment so that they find it easier to adjust
Productivity is used to measure the efficiency of workers. It refers to the amount of goods a single worker can produce.

Advantages of training

  • It improves efficiency, hence productivity rises
  • Training brings new ideas into the workplace, which helps production
  • Training can improve product quality, which can give the firm a competitive advantage

Disadvantages of training

  • Training costs can not be recovered and are regarded as sunk cost
  • Uncooperative workers may not improve
  • The new pattern of working may be difficult to apply without management's help
