Motivation is the willpower to work which encourages workers to perform tasks efficiently
Theories of motivation
Taylor's Scientific Theory
Taylor's Scientific Theory suggested that, in order to motivate workers, two steps must be taken. First, the unskilled workers must be taught the proper working techniques which will make them skilled workers. In addition, workers must be given proper payment so that they are not deprived with lower wages.
Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs
Maslow's hierarchy of needs includes five motivatory factors
- Physiological needs[Basic Human Needs]
- Safety Needs[Physical safety + Job Security]
- Social needs
- Self esteem
- Self Actualisation
Herzberg's two factor theory
Herzberg's two factor theory stated that motivation depends on two factors
Hygiene factors are those that a worker expects from the workplace. If these are absent, workers will be demotivated. However, nothing happens to motivation if they are present.
Motivators are those which workers do not expect from the workplace. If they recieve them they will be highly motivated but if they are absent, nothing happens to motivation.
